A concept that revolutionizes the way we experience makeup.

Untitled v5.png

"A cosmetics brand that offers the beauty products you need, in the perfect size, to fit in any purse or pocket. Its glamorous style makes it the ultimate accessory to enhance every outfit, and its practicality allows you to take it with you wherever you go. If you have a beauty emergency, don't panic- Scarlata has you covered!"

  • GOALS
My main goal was to learn more about the 'Chicha' Art movement and better understand why that style was so visually compelling, effective in communicating its message, and representative of Peruvian Culture. In doing so, I wanted to put myself in the shoes of local Peruvian artists & designers, and get immersed into their creative process and fascinating artistry. In terms of my design practice, I aspired to create designs that were inspired by Chicha Art, but most importantly, representative of my culture and personal style.
  • EXPERIENCE
This project was very inspiring and eye opening to me because I was able to get in touch with my culture's artistic roots and discover so many incredible designers and craftsmen that persevere and thrive pursuing what they love every day. However, I did face some challenges along the way. During my design process, I struggled finding a balance between the Chicha style and my own, as I was trying to have it be a source of inspiration rather than a style I was going to replicate. As a result, my designs resembled more of a personal style, incorporating the Chicha Art style with a bit of a personalized and modern twist.
  • MAIN TAKEAWAYS
My biggest takeaway was having learned in greater depth about my country and all the diverse ways in which we express ourselves through art, and also truly understand all the passion and dedication that goes into creating such emblematic pieces. Peru has and will always have a special place in my heart and be a source of inspiration for my work, so it was a very enriching and fulfilling experience for me. I believe I was able to create visually compelling designs that are both representative of Chicha Art and my own visual style, however, I consider that I could have incorporated more of the knowledge I acquired through my research into creating more thoughtful and unique ways of displaying my work. In addition, part of me feels that I delved more into my personal style rather than putting a bigger focus on the more traditional Chicha visual style.

Ideation Phase & Initial Renders

The models above are some renders from my initial design phase, where I explored different shapes, colors, materials and overall product functionality. They helped me establish a very solid foundation for my future polished models and allowed me to realize what was working aesthetically, but also from a practical and structural standpoint.

The Products

As part of my cosmetics line, I designed digital 3D prototypes of five different products: Lipstick, Lip gloss, Mascara, Concealer, and Pressed Powder. These are essentials in the beauty world and for the average makeup user, but alike your regular makeup products, Scarlata cosmetics are also your accessories and life-savers in any makeup emergency (yes, we've all been there!)

The Ultimate Accessory

Makeup that not only decorates your face, but also your wardrobe. It revolutionizes the way we see and use makeup by transforming into stylish and readily available accessories that elevate your whole look and offer you a quick solution to any beauty touch-ups or emergencies. Each product comes with a "Mini Ring" and "Clip Holder," both which can be used to attach the items to clothing items, bags, and more.

The Final Look

In further developing my brand, I designed a digital 3D prototype of how my products would look showcased in a Point of Sale display, and how I envision the design of that display as well. This minimalist but elegant design further enhances the brand identity through its round corners and cylindrical shapes, and enables the main focus to be the products exhibited. Additionally, being able to showcase the products in unison with the other accessories offered, showing the different ways in which they can be used, is a crucial component of the display.

The Packaging

At last, a sleek and minimalist packaging is essential to convey the value and luxury of these products. All makeup products are packaged individually in a perfectly fitted space, with shock resistance, and bundled up with the "Mini Ring" and "Clip Holder." The "Scarlata Union Ring" is packaged and purchased separately, allowing customers to have multiple products together, attached to one 'Ring', and easily accessible!

Advertising Campaigns

As a final component of this project, I designed a series of posters to showcase the final products being used in real-life scenarios, how they can apply to different situations, and have a variety of uses. I found these images to be visually striking and powerful, creating a lot of contrast through its bold colors and clean compositions, and allowing me to place the main focus on the cosmetics and showcase their value.
